Just to clarify in response to some of the recent postings above: Brentford Bridge has no specific weight limit. It was strengthened a decade ago and the weight limit is the national 40 tonnes. The carriageway surface along High Street is in very poor condition but is programmed for complete resurfacing next month (Premier Inn at Goat Wharf to Holiday Inn at Commerce Road). Works currently being undertaken along High Street between Goat Wharf and Dock Road are reconfiguring the carriageway in advance of the cycle superhighway, with the intention of ensuring that the shape and width of this section is “cycle superhighway ready” before the resurfacing takes place, so that it is not dug up again next year. The cycle superhighway signs and coloured surfaces etc will be installed in 2013. The work today at Gillette Corner is emergency works to replace a 6m traffic signals column that was apparently knocked down last night. If it’s not done now TfL have advised that the whole junction may have to be switched off. TfL have advised that the contractor is making every effort to have this work finished before peak hours this evening. If this was non-emergency work it WOULD have been called off - every effort is made to coordinate works wherever possible. Chris Calvi-Freeman Head of Transport London Borough of Hounslow |
