| Indeed, I'm no fan of the police myself and my perception is they sometimes go OTT against 'soft targets'. On a much more trivial scale I remember once getting pulled over for speeding and the police only seemed bothered about it when I made the mistake of addressing the policeman as 'mate' rather than 'officer'. Equally they are only human like you and I and every human has their breaking point. I'm not ashamed to admit there's absolutely no way I would be able to keep my cool under the kind of provocation they get when handling incidents like last night. Going back to the original matter though, given cutbacks in funding etc. I'm not surprised the police 'only' rang up the suspect and sent a standard letter. Not saying it's right, but that's the kind of level of service I personally expect from the police, local authorities etc. in the current climate. |
