| I think it is a superb idea. There are large numbers of traditional Labour voters in this area who are fundamentally decent people and who would instantly become re-enfranchised were a Labour candidate with a bit of ethical standing to enter the frame. However I am not sure that the words "independent" and "Labour" stand very well together. In my view "being Labour" these days is all about being loyal to an organisation rather than adherence to a political philosophy of any kind. I am therefore not at all convinced that such a person could conceivably emerge from within the ranks of the Labour Party, although naturally I would be happy to be proved wrong. |
