I would rather the buildings fall down than the public loose a square inch (metre)of park land. Nature generally looks after herself better than we do. Gunnersbury is not wild enough and too much is a pretty sterile grass monoculture. Public administrators of course will want to administer which will cost money to build/maintain their empires so the public starts getting softened up for development when there are more responsible brown field sites available. People of all ages want space and a bit more natural diversity not a series of subsidised "leisure products". So shouldn't we continue our national heritage tradition by allowing the development of one or two more picturesque ruins if there is no intrinsic "back-your-mouth-with-your money" demand for them intact? |
