| To put a cycle lane both sides would have been ideal but would have meant a major loss of parking and street trees, which would have been strongly resisted. The vast majority of cyclists use the lane both ways (use your eyes not your prejudices) though a minority use the road southbound. When it's completed at the southern end I expect this to reduce, though if you're turning into Swyncombe Avenue it's a rigmarole to cross the road twice. In the cycle lane you only cross the very lightly trafficked Boston Gardens (twice) and I have very rarely had to give way. There's also sufficient visibility that I don't slow down (because I would have room to stop) though admittedly I do not ride at Bradley Wiggins pace. |
