There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour and litter dropping generally in public parks over this period, or so I have read. Who is to say that none of the people leaving their litter behind come from the Dock estate? Some people do behave badly on their own patch. Similarly, how can you be so sure that any undesirable behaviour comes from outsiders and that none comes from people - perhaps those on short term rentals - within the estate? I know one landlord who has a property there with five individual short term renters (a four bedroom flat with the front room made into another bedroom). I have (hands up!) walked over to the estate - mainly down Augustus Road and then back down Dock Road (so hardly 'touching') a few times over this period and that has been at various times of the day and I always think how peaceful, litter-and trouble-free it is there. If there have been a few more people venturing onto the estate over this period, those behaving anti-socially or not, isn't this likely to diminish once this coronavirus business is over? Home-growns and outsiders alike will, hopefully, be back at work. I do realise that the Dock residents pay for the upkeep of the estate. Out of interest, does the amount paid also cover heating and hot water and buildings upkeep? Just asking. I understand that there are also still a number of Council owned properties on the estate. Do the occupants pay the same service charge or is this covered by the Council? I really do think it would be a great shame for gates to be put up on the estate, both for residents and for the few 'outsiders' who dare to venture there albeit on an occasional basis. It seems to me that it would be a hammer to crack a nut and is working towards making Brentford Dock our very own Eyams village. |
