I wonder if any readers of this Forum have any views on Brentford Dock Limited's proposals to remove access by others in Brentford to a large part of the Brentford Dock Estate? This would be achieved through the erection of 8 electronically-controlled gates that would remove public access to the open area at the southern end of the estate. Our family has lived in Brentford for 43 years and we have always enjoyed access to this area. The walk and the magnificent views over the Thames and across to Kew have provided us with a regular physical and mental tonic. There is no doubt that the land in question is in the private ownership of Brentford Dock Limited (BDL) and it seems that there is no public right of way. It also appears that no planning permissions would be required. If the Dock residents regularly experience problems such as littering, noise, and vandalism then that is clearly unacceptable. However other means are available to tackle such issues. In relation to this matter does BDL have any moral responsibilities to the wider community in Brentford or should they feel free to do whatever they wish? |
