I'm lucky, Went on a research program in the USA ( quite a few years ago now ) and they identified exactly what causes my hay fever. Plane trees. To be precise plane trees that release seeds. Fortunately, the variety found locally in streets generally does not produce these spores. But they are common in parks, particularly Gunnersbury Park. Forgotten now which of these are the male or female of the species. They are in abundance all among the Chelsea Embankment and Battersea Park and that is where my office was for a while. It's mid to late May and early June. Apparently the spores are not just an irritant but also carcinogenic. Ironic as the Plane tree is also one of the best urban street and park trees for cleaning the air the rest of the time in leaf! |
