"Sorry to disappoint you again, but some Council tenants  actually go to work and earn a reasonable wage, and to get to work, some of us own a car, but there are no car spaces to be had in the development. So I would like to rent one if I can afford a space, but there isn't any to rent."

If you read my post Bernard, it is in response to your own words.

But I did not call you anything untoward or imply it. And I also support everyone having the right to park a car at your home.

I earn 31k for a 65-70 hour week. That's with professional qualifications and two degrees and a lot of experience.  Do the maths and you will find that it's way below the London and National income average for a 40 hour week.
And it is far from unusual.

Tube Drivers earn 50k for a 39 hour week as a benchmark.

Technically, I would be therefore be so below the poverty line that I could have applied for a Council House.

But I do not and never have considered myself disabled, or disadvantaged enough to apply for such.

I know there are those who are far more in need than I and unable to ever own or rent a home privately. You may well be one of those who deserve such but you don't mention that. Nor do you have to.

No. I do not know your circumstances, but you made a statement which implies you are on a good income.

I endlessly  criticise the complete lack of properly affordable housing and the really poor deal many in social housing get. And am fully aware of the almost impossible situation that exists for many who are in work.

But as a consequence, I am also fully aware of council tenants who do earn in excess of the figures I quoted, and do question why on those incomes the validity of living in a heavily subsidised mode.

We manage and are hardly in need.  But it's tough. We pay our way in full.

And, like I also said, costs like CPZ permits and garden waste cost dearly and sacrifices have to be made constantly.
