"I have noticed there is often nobody on the 10 items or less till " Sainsbury's in Chiswick removed all such tills and you are therefore forced to DIY or wait behind people buying van-loads of stuff. I find the DIY tills incredibly badly designed and unfriendly, and they don't handle the car park card, which you then have to get endorsed by a member of the staff. Talking of DIY, B&Q have introduced self-service tills too. I'm gradually getting used to them. I remember the confusion and irritation when self-service petrol pumps were introduced, in the 1960s I guess. Before then, you waited until a man (it was always a man) came out and operated the pump for you. The idea that you would have to do this yourself seemed shocking at the time, but perfectly natural now. |
