| Phil / Sarah / Steve Thanks for your various replies. I'm not a constituent so it is for them to judge, and when the next General Election comes, maybe their verdict will oust her. The point has been fairly made that the selection of a candidate widens the field of responsibility beyond the candidate's alone. I have elsewhere on one or other of these community discussion forums made my own view on MP expenses clear, basically that I would prefer to see higher core salary and elimination of most of the expenses structure, forcing them to use their salaries the way most ordinary people do to meet the costs of doing their job. I get the feeling the ground has shifted on MPs mid-term, that at one stage they were given the nod by officials to claim and now a more puritanical line is being taken. But their own integrity - if any - should have warned them, a little alarm bell, that something is not right about saying one thing to the public about where you live and another thing to the Fees Office. let alone other authorities. I suspect Dennis Skinner isn't in this boat. It is noteworthy that Andy Slaughter, MP for Ealing, Acton and Shepherds Bush - who is currently my MP until boundary changes remove him - only has one home, and also resigned as PPS in order to vote against the 3rd Heathrow runway. Would that others had his integrity. |
