| And now, it appears that the sweet, historic O’Riordan’s is going to be flattened. In its place? Yes, you’ve got it… more flats. Never mind that another pub would be quite useful, given its proximity to the stadium. Never mind that it could be sensitively converted into some really lovely apartments, retaining its pretty exterior and setting a wonderful example in repurposing an existing structure. Never mind that neighbouring residents are objecting to the new build, as their privacy will be compromised. No. Let’s build some flats. Let’s demolish the little that’s left of Brentford’s architectural diversity*. Let’s just make things a little bit worse for everyone. It’s the modern way. * The beautiful Georgian doorways adjacent to the Wilson & Kyle building have gone. I’m sorry, but that was sheer vandalism. |
