I wonder why Hounslow is putting up these banners? I also wonder why they have picked the sites that they have? Anyone else putting up banners would be done for some form of grafitti or unauthorised advertising. I say this because we have had numerous conversations about the one facing College Road, outside Isleworth Station. Road signs are meant to be instructional ones for drivers and meant to be relevant and safe. The banner facing cars exiting College road is none of these. It is a dangerous frivolous distraction for drivers and should not be there. Placing of advertising banners to advertise something has to be driven by safety and who you are delivering the message to. Drivers do not need to read this banner and not many other people would notice it where it is placed. I was going to report it to Hounslow Council but as they seem to have put it up and are taking responsibility for it and any distraction road accidents, maybe the complaint should be to the Police. Am I being OTT? No. Turning right towards Hounslow we now have more fast cars pulling in to the middle of the road from the left, to use College road as a short cut, because of delays caused by the Church street closure. At the same time you have to balance other road users coming to you from the right, especially those which appear around the bus picking up passengers from the bus stop. There are pedestrians crossing at the foot of the road, cars exiting and going in to the station and tucked just out of sight behind the cars racing to use the new cut through, a bike lane with bikes undertaking and coming up fast from the left as you make the turn in front of the barrier. Danger danger danger all around and now I can halt halfway across the road to read my latest driver instructions on the highway, advertising Church street. What is going on with this Council? |
