It's not the railings which are not so old and are time expired. It was the cast iron and ornate gate posts which were much older and dated from 1883. They were restored at the personal expense of a Grosvenor road resident, who had them structurally tested, stripped to bare metal, corrosion proofed and repainted. It was agreed with LBH to remove the gate itself but retain the posts, The gate was not the original but was also 80 years old. It'd the fact that they were smashed and not removed that is the most annoying, especially for the chap who paid for them to be restored. The new posts which are painted scaffold poles are located in almost exactly the same position. Annoying too that this was flagged up right from the outset and as per usual for Hounslow, ignored. If nothing of note is going to be protected in a conservation area, then what is the point? Adam, How does one get things protected then? |
