David Cameron very early on told his MP's they had to behave and pay back any money improperly claimed and the vast majority of them did. A number of long-serving Conservative MP's were de-selected. Gordon Brown simply did not do this and he continued to back discredited MP's like the Keens well past their sell by dates. Liam Fox was entitled, just like the Keens, to go through the review process. When Sir Thomas Legg ruled against him, he paid back the money. Chris Grayling has paid the price for his indiscretions by being demoted from a Shadow Cabinet position to a Minister of State position. I am not familar with the details of his case but so far as I know he did not claim for a second home in London while owing a perfectly decent house within 10 miles of the House of Commons. Ann Keen has paid the price for her greed with her seat. Alan Keen has lost all credibility outside those who were silly enough to vote for him. No Conservative MP's are facing criminal charges for fraud. Some Labour MP's are. |
