"However, of course, me being a racist, what would I know?" Quite. "...and local councils turning labour and that's what makes Ann Keen different and underlines the reasons why voters turned against her..." I'm afraid it doesn't. You see, the councils last voted in 2006 - when Labour did very badly; whereas the parliamentary seats were last contested in 2005 - when Labour won. In 2006, the Tories were 13% ahead nationally; in 2005, Labour were 3% ahead nationally. Therefore, you are starting from a different base The simple fact - which you refuse to recognise - is that on May 6 the Tories narrowly out-polled Labour in terms of the aggregate vote in the local elections in the ten wards that make up the Brentford & Isleworth constituency. Tories and Labour each won 15 council seats in the Brentford & Isleworth constituency. The ONLY reason Labour won back control of Hounslow Council was because Labour came out tops in the Feltham & Heston constituency - winning 20 council seats in that neck of the woods (compared to 10 for the Tories). As in B&I, Alan Keen's vote reflected the vote won by his party's council candidates. |
