Thank you for all your excellent suggestions - very much appreciated indeed. In many respects, I think that Raymond has found himself closest to the notion of what I was suggesting. I had read about an initiative undertaken by Morrisons where, during half-term, anyone in need could go to a Morrisons café, ask for 'Henry' and receive a free hot meal consisting of a baked potato and baked beans - one a day, no questions. It was available to all comers, adults, children, pensioners. A wonderful thing, but the only problem was that our branch of Morrisons doesn't have a café. What happens to our local families living in food poverty, or those not able to afford the fuel to cook a potato or heat baked beans? It got me thinking about the Soup Club my friend had mentioned, which is where my original post came in. In life, I have negligible skills, if - indeed - any at all. But I can cook. I am a chef, but my cheffing has been on hold for the past couple of years. I can make soup and I would be happy to make soup for people who might need a hot, nutritious meal. This was my only intention. I shall make some calls and write some e-mails to see if there is any enthusiasm for this idea. I can't do it on my own. I'll certainly update you all if I have any news. As before, any further thoughts would be gratefully received. Thank you all very much for your input. |
