The nonsense is Philippa that we are throwing money at the railways and moving around once you get to the station is rarely an issue. The 'realm' around the stations however is predominantly the responsibility of the local authority in which the station is situated. It is they not Network Rail who have failed the less-able traveller by simply failing to think about equality of access. Simply planning drop-off points when a site is developed rather than focussing on draconian parking enforcement and insisting during the planning process that adequate equality of access provision is made would radically change the landscape of travel for many people without costing the local authorities a penny.
