"Carve up, build high, sod the long term residents." Very true, and very sad. It's such a shame when there was a fantastic opportunity to redevelop with a nod to the best of Brentford, instead it's just about shoehorning in as many tiny, crappy flats in the available space in a load of massive blocks, while justifying the out of scale heights by using the awful police tower as precedent. Really sad state of affairs, when there was an opportunity to do so much better. People mostly want to live in houses with their own little bit of garden - look how popular the Victorian and Edwardian terraces still are for that very reason. And look how well built they are by comparison. Could have built modern terraces or mews style houses that would have been so much better. Instead, more identikit blocks with 'features' like glass balconies that look slick on an architect's drawing but awful once filled up with the reality of people's' everyday clutter and crap. Oh and a nine story car park that's an absolute carbuncle and was not part of the original plans, but now that it's convenient for the developer to put it there it just gets waved through. Shouldn't be shocked, I suppose, but it is shockingly bad. |
