I took a look at the exhibition. Yes it looks lovely. No it will not be affordable to anyone other than the quite wealty. But as my guest who is a retired Lighterman noticed, the lovely arrangement of boats is not actually possible on a river with the tidal magnitude of the Thames. No clear explanation how the mud is to be dredged, But as even the most novice of boat users will know, you do not turn a boat broadside to a current. For house boats this will cause them to rock and place huge stress on the moorings. As the tide moves both ways even a harbour wall at both ends will not stop the draw of current. For posh boats, they will get battered and bashed at every strong tide. It looks ideal, but it won't actually be practicable for floating vessels. |
