It doesn't have to be shabby and tatty though does it? To heap the problems of cades of neglect at the door of Goddard's is a tad unfair. There is no cohesive plan for the area which, sadly, reflects the people it serves. if the tatty shops can make a living serving the local community why would they feel obliged to change? Previous attempts to 'gentrify' Brentford have failed dismally and while the demographics may have changed the underlying problems have not. Simply throwing money at yet more overpriced housing on the south side of the High Street will solve nothing. Catherine Wheel Road/Brent Way/ The Ham were traditionally the home of light industry (my uncle had a tannery there) and could be again given the will and considered investment by Hounslow. |
