"Thames Water is not even a British company. It is owned by Kemble Water, a consortium of investors led by Australian bank Macquarie." Yes indeed - when it was British it was very badly run and taken over by the German RWE Group who saw it as a cash- cow. They restructured and made bundles of money under efficient German management but instead of investing in the UK they syphoned off the profits to Germany. The year before the sale to the Australian Macquarie group, three RWE directors were reported to be the highest paid Company Directors in Europe. Harry Roels the CEO topped the package of UK's highest paid CEO (Bob Diamond of Barclays) Making money is what Macquarie do best and they know how to do it. Their job is made easy because we have a toothless Regulator. |
