| Hounslow torch bearers to run in other boroughs after mix-up Mar 21 2012 By Lima Curtis Torron-Lee Dewar will be bearing the Olympic torch when it passes through Brentford. AN OLYMPIC mix-up will see Hounslow torchbearers run through other boroughs while individuals running the Hounslow route will come from as far away as Hertfordshire. Sports bosses have admitted they struggled with planning the event and local heros could travel up to an hour away instead of running near their homes. Brentford dance prodigy and community champion Torron Lee-Dewar will run through Hillingdon and school librarian Mahavir Ladva, a torch bearer from Hounslow, will run in Richmond. Brentford resident and community group organiser Julia Quilliam said: "We are very excited about the route coming through Brentford but Torron's our local champion and we want him running through Brentford. It's ridiculous we have people running from outside the borough in our borough and people from Hounslow are running in Hillingdon or Richmond." An Olympics spokesperson said: "It was a huge logistical challenge and we had to organise 8,000 people over 8,000 miles and it was very hard to do it. We realise people may not be able to walk out and see their friends in their area but hope they are still happy the torch is coming through it." Mr Lee-Dewar, whose friends and family will have to travel up to 13 miles via closed or congested roads to share his glory, said: "I hope that as many as people can make the time to come and watch me in Hillingdon. I am just so excited to take part and I am as high as the sky, even though I won't be running through Brentford, I am still from Brentford and still being me." According to the official list people running through Hounslow will come from as far away as St Albans, Guilford and Aylesbury. what a shame |
