Interesting that Waltham Forest Council are going to pay for anyone who wants a torch, I wouldn't be best pleased if the Borough which I lived in was squandering money in that way. I've no idea if the torches really do cost £495 to make, and I do think it would have been a "nice touch" if all torch bearers were given a momento of their contribution consisting of a Certificate and a small/cheap replica of the torch, which might have cost the organisers a couple of quid or so to put together. And then, if the stupid parents of "spoilt Johnny" still want to splash out £200 on the real thing, then that's up to them. Whenever I run the Great South Run, if I want to obtain normal sized photos of me during the run taking by the official event organisers I have to pay money, why should the Olympics be any different ?. |
