Sarah, No disrespect, but you have previously indicated on the forum that you are a Conservative voter, so perhaps you are seeing things from that perspective. If you think the Ashcroft funding is a "smokescreen" thrown up by supporters of Ann Keen, then perhaps you could explain why Lib Dem candidate Andrew Dakers refers to it in detail on his website, and has commented on the issue more than once in the local press. As a footnote, you may like to know that according to Wikipedia, Lord Baron Ashcroft allegedly gave the right-wing "People's United Party" in Belize $1m when it was in opposition. During its period in power, it introduced laws that are claimed by opponents and media commentators to be financially advantageous to Ashcroft. In my opinion, this proves that billionaires do not give vast sums of money to candidates and political parties unless they expect some sort of "return" on their investment. Know what I mean? |
