The problems the banks created recently were not the caused from their transactional banking services (current accounts etc.) but from their investment and lending divisions. And from the banks over-gearing the ratio between exposure and funds to cover the lending/investment exposure. The bonuses that we view as bad were the ones being given to reward such high risk behaviours. The customer service and the annoyance from high penalty charges for being overdrawn etc are therefore not really to do with these bad bonuses and economy destroying risk-taking. We're muddling up two issues here. |
