So I find myself in the strange position of defending banks. That was not my point. My point was that people are not taking sufficient ownership for their own responsibilities and have tendency to blame others (especially when there are large, anonymous organisations involved). However, I don't really understand the parallel with parking tickets. But the example of "I owed the bank money on my credit card and they took the money from my account to pay for it" seems to be good case of I'm not really in control of my finances, I missed a payment, they used the terms of the contract I signed up but couldn't be bothered reading to access the money they were owed, they almost made me go overdrawn, its not fair, boo hoo, boo hoo. Or did I miss something? (PS - I am, of course, winding you up, Vanessa.) Next week I will be explaining why the bonuses for bankers and top executives is not only fair and reasonable but a reflection of robust corporate risk management. |
