| Residential parking permits for residents to park at home is one thing. Charging by age or engine size is another. It should be a flat rate with a higher rate for larger cars and vans that are wider than the marked spaces. Simple and clear. This system discriminates against those for whom a car has to last many years and those who can afford to change a car regularly and those who can afford huge cars. A small 1.6 car ends up paying more than some huge car which weighs more and thus damages more. Nor is a parked car polluting. It may not get used very much but is nontheless vital to its user. Thoroughly discriminatory and overly complex and thus unfair. Simple Large cars and vans and ordinary cars. |
