It's disappointing to see the twaddle about Hounslow which has become very popular in the alternative local 'news' outlet spreading here, where there has in the past been a tradition of some balance. Yes I would like our roads to be better, but they are independently assessed year after year as the best in London. OF course, people from a conservative perspective see waste everywhere by a Labour council. I did point out a couple of months ago that my estimate of the potential financial impact on Hounslow that £15.6 Bn was spent by the government on PPE that was unusable. If that had been avoided I calculate would have been worth c£64M to Hounslow, given our population. Hounslow under Steve Curran was voted Council of the year, which was for a good reason. Nobody argues (well, certainly I don't) that the council is perfect and I spend a lot of my time finding and looking to resolve where things don't work well. Conservatives forget that about 20% of councils of all colours are expecting to become insolvent in the 15 months from approx the beginning of 2024. Which one of 5 West London councils will be in the frame? Not Hounslow for sure. |
