At a guess the Brentford Backanders and thus Brentford were simply chosen as an alliterative convenience by the scriptwriter. In earlier episodes Arthur had always been associated with West London but he only moved westwards in later series. So that in the early series the car lot and other locations were in Hammersmith conveniently close to Euston Films HQ in the old St Pauls Prep school premises. Same as the Sweeney where it was used for many of the local "factory" interiors. Later the car lot moved to Churchfield Rd Acton while the Winchester Club moved via Chalk Farm and Holland Park to a turning off Churchfield Rd as well. The only specific Brentford location I can remember for "Minder" is when they Arthur, Ray, and Dave visit Brentford Library. In the coach episode the coach broke down on Ealing Green complete with bogus statue. It then proceeded southward on South Ealing Ealing Road to just near the Brentford border. Theres a "Professionals" episode filmed around Brentford dock/flats where Ray Doyle, impeccably played as always by Martin Shaw tries to get hired as a hit man. There was a website somewhere devoted to "Minder" locations. It also had a chat room which was closed as a result of abuse. michael adams |
