I've long felt that both Ealing and Hounslow are oversized with too much diversity to be effective and capable local authorities. One size does not fit all and polarised politics has emerged gradually getting to what we have now ever since the creation of these overlarge boroughs, Both of which have seen a seismic increase in population since 165 and not done all that good a job in coping with it. Poor quality social housing, and very little in the way of quality infrastructure. Not all the fault of the actual councils, but very much the fault of the architects behind the 32 London Boroughs reshaping. There's a list of things that combine with the Greater London shaping which have really failed people in lots of ways. I still thing that Ealing needs to be split and so does Hounslow So a third borough or even a 4th. Many core services could be combined but planning and local issues and infrastructure becomes really localised to suit needs better. And representatives are true representatives of where they live and know it. Not like the ludicrous system which has people from a completely divergent district who have no idea or interest in another district voting for things they have no idea or interest in and all the end to end politicking that results. |
