It's all very well claiming that people are abusing it but do you have actual proof?

It's very hard to do. Yes it sure happens but then so do rapists and paedophiles. But just because someone looks dodgy, rough or unkempt does not mean they are the above.

A former girlfriend of mine was recently assaulted in a Ruislip car park for getting into a car with a blue badge.
The fact that she had just dropped both her disabled parents off and was simply waiting in the car for them, or the fact that she is their carer and driver is not apparent.

But that's no excuse for pointing the finger and branding people.

The system is deeply flawed but no-one is interested in reforming it, from who has to own the car - how many partially sighted people own a car and how many  are owned by husband or wife etc. to joint permits for those family carers who  restricted because of the 24/7 nature of caring and may themselves be elderly and ailing.

In my opinion, as parking and CPZs are artificially created charges that do not really use resources in the way that social care or schools do,  any resident of more than 10 years and over 75, should not have to pay for a permit and have a free visitors permit to their home address. But for their sole use.

When you get to a point that public transport is no longer a practicable option a car is a better option to retain independence.

It is amazing just how many seniors use their car to help others who are less able or ailing and yet they get penalised for it.

Maybe a day or afternoon at an elderly or dementia centre will open a few eyes of the struggle it can be for those suffering or caring for someone not obviously disabled but doing everything to keep these people dignified, as independent as possible, and often with the odds stacked against them.

With social care and the most basic of facilities now almost impossible, the reliance on carers who are unpaid is massive and being easilymobile is often the only option for any semblance of normality
