Tim I am grateful to you for highlighting the fact that the report made no reference to the £250k which was specifically earmarked from the council's budget in March 2010 for repairs to this building. This is wholly relevant when considering that the case for disposal is made largely on the grounds that the sum of £500k (which is not substantiated with any kind of evidence) would allegedly be needed to bring the building back into a state of full repair. I would ask how it is possible for the officers who wrote this report to plead that £500k is needed for repairs to this building and to forget to mention that half that sum is already sitting in the bank waiting to be spent on same. Assuming that the Lead Members are acting in good faith (and until I see or hear evidence to the contrary I do make that assumption) it has to be concluded either that officers have deliberately withheld important information from them in order to help ensure that the "right" decision would be taken by Cabinet, or else the money allocated by Borough Council for repairs to this property has been spent elsewhere without any authority having been given for this to happen. We intend to get to the truth of this, so the department in question had better start preparing some answers. |
