It is very harsh. But The housing shortage down here is so bad and there are lots of vacant properties further up country (which charge less rent and so reduces the Housing Benefit bill). The Government should concentrate on investing for growth further up country. It is absurd to have much of our wealth being generated in the south. Also if we vacate some our overcrowded houses down here then they can be occupied by working people instead of them living on the parents living room floor. If you are saying that foreigners are less likely to get work because they are foreign then they will have both to put more effort into learning English and improving their skills, and further some of that will have to funded by government. But for those whose culture is just to rely on benefits for a lifetime they need stick as well as carrot. Being at risk of moving at the States pleasure will concentrate minds. Many of the immigrants who came here under the failed Labour Immigration policies were economic migrants rather than genuine asylum seekers. Economic migrants come here for a better life. A life on Benefits according to our culture is not a better life but is a strain on the public finances. |
