There were a lot of people complaining that the bags were too big... too. I still think that since most of this packaging comes from the supermarkets that you should take your packaging back to them whenever you can. Their stance was that we wanted all this packaging and this conclusion of theirs was because we did not speak up; we just put up with it and ended up with masses more for the Councils to deal with at OUR expense when there are things that are more important for them to spend our Council Tax on. It is only since the public has become more vocal that any effort seems to have been put into reducing packaging as the main supermarkets already had an agreement with the Government to reduce it but it was still increasing. There are neighbourhood recycling banks and these are also important. I haven't looked recently to see whether they are easier to find online in Hounslow than that very large map there used to be. A great shame for many that the Homebase banks were taken away. The sweeping the day after can be a bit of a Catch 22. It works well when you have a diligent crew doing the recycling but sometimes doesn't if they are hopelessly careless and then it becomes a bit of a job creation scheme. Monitoring and feedback should help. |
