| One thing I am certain about is the Borough seems genuinely trying to sort out the recycling situation. What is letting us down is the people holding the contracts who possibly made promises they would fulfil in winning their contract, without really having the mechanisms in place to do so. The closure of the Homebase recycling centre is one failure and stopping the weekly clean up following the collections is another. The increase in rubbish and garden waste blowing around in the streets following a pick up is significant until it disperses by blowing into peoples gardens or in the case of the apples dropped all over the street last week, squashed into the ground. This additional rubbish in the streets had been noticed following complaints and was the reason why somebody won the weekly clean up following collections, I thought. There was absolutely no response to my complaint about the litter of apples and plastic bottles last week and I bet the comment about the company getting a littering fine was a fob off too. On the positive side the green garden waste sacks are great and the team do not appear to be jobsworths, only emptying 2 bags. My neighbours family did a week hard work in the garden and put out 4 bags (two borrowed from elsewhere) and they emptied them all. I understand about the bulky plastic waste and, as we have the room for storage, I fill additional plastic bags and place them alongside the white sacks. I often use the charity plastic bags, inside out and they are always taken. The dustmen are always very good a long standing team. |
