If your bag is getting full that quickly it might be worth rethinking the way you shop for food, reducing is always better than recycling where possible. Get your fruit and veg naked (don't seperate them into bags, it's something that's always struck me as a really bizarre meme! Why do people do that?). Try and avoid ready-meals wherever possible, they're probably the most overpackaged things you can get from the supermarket (they're also full of preservatives and additives that are really bad for you). Get/make reusable bags or just save your old ones and use them again so they don't end up in the recycling. I found one of the biggest contributers to my plastics recycling bag was yoghurt pots (I have a toddler!), so now I just get a big tub of yoghurt and dish it out portions into a ramekin for my daughter, that way we only have one tub to recycle. Also, ask your local nursery school if they want your yoghurt pots/butter tubs/ice cream tubs/plastic milk bottles, sometimes they use them to do really cool art projects with the kids. Hope some of that was useful as apposed to just greener-than-thou eco babble! :) |
