The service suffers dreadfully from road restrictions almost the length ion the route with very few passing points. On top of that the Electric buses suffer range issues which leads to a great many short notice curtailments. Ironically, Bexleyheath Garage is about to go electric and is using a Pantograph charging method. Means no cables or limitations on charging. Both BexleyHeath and Fulwell ( where the 65 now operates from) have something in common. Both were Trolleybus depots and subsequently have roof structures that supported electricity supply infrastructure. This later method allows for remote charging at ends of a route without massive infrastructure or health risks ( the first method was inductive and could fry pacemakers or hearing aids as well as other vehicle electronics from 25m.) But the complete lack of standardisation and joined up thinking at TfL has yet again missed a versatile and pragmatic solution which would enable very high reliability and a universal standard. Fulwell has an open day next saturday. |
