The Streetspace consultation was completely loaded against motor vehicles and biased towards Cycling and Walking. Input for suggestions to improve could only be made for those modes. Secondly, it was wide open to abuse by organised groups in the same way the Cycling activists hijacked the CS9 Survey and have the ear of politicians by their subversive ways. At least part of that got spotted and TfL rapped for being partly behind it. Unfortunately this has not deterred local authorities from using manipulative means to get the results they want. It should be far stricter on just who can be consulted. Proof of being a bona fide resident / council tax payer or local business tax payer and not an activist from Croydon or a TfL office or a party member obeying orders. The problem with manipulation is where does it stop? Implementation end up being sub standard and wrong because the data was cooked and not really relevant. Even good ideas have been cocked up because of such meddling. And just look at what a mess TfL are now in from wasting ££££££s on half cocked initiatives that have not worked as desired and now cannot support core services. Proposed up by myopic local councils who just want funding without question. |
