The problem with your last comment about estimates Nicholas is that no small business can devote such time to putting together such a detailed estimate for a minor job like painting a fence. Or, if if they do, then the time spent in putting together that estimate will be reflected in their fee proposal, which in turn is likely to make them more expensive than their competitors, and in turn they'll probably soon go out of business. In my line of work if it's obvious at an early stage that a client is either going to need alot of 'hand holding' or is going to be rather 'needy' in terms of constantly ringing me up and emailing me, then I'm more like to propose a fee estimate based on an hourly rate basis than a fixed fee, simply to avoid the scenario where I spend 10 hours working on a project that my fee proposal only allocated 5 hours for (and which would have only taken 5 hours were it not for all the 'hand holding'). |
