Fly Tipping is a problem in that if it is taken away to quickly then the fly tippers can think that they have created a their own private collection system. On the other hand if it is left then others think they can add to it. Cameras and vigilance warnings and prosecution are the answer. At this time of year students are leaving their accommodation. More could be done to help them move and dispose of all their stuff. They don't want to leave it in their accommodation as they will be fined or won't get their deposits back and the landlord won't want it there because once they have left it then instead of being household waste and accepted free at the Reuse & Recycling Centre (once known as tip) it becomes Business Waste and the landlord has to be pay to dispose of it. Universities and charities need to work together. In Oxford they have managed something. Students like to be independent of their parents but this is a time when parental support can be really useful. LBH has an online reporting site. Isn't it called Sort-it? You can also use www.fixmystreet.com to report fly-tipping. It is easy to use and even if they don't take any notice - other people can see what has been reported in their area and how many times and updates can be added. You can report anonymously if you want/need to. Why not take a look at the www.fixmystreet.com website and see what has been reported in an area near you? |
