| None of these new schools are being made available for community use and those that used to are now able to minimise or exclude community use out of school hours. Quite the opposite to this system in the US and Canada where the schools must provide low cost or free access to local residents for various activities. The obvious sites are on the land held by developers and the council needs to severe its cosy relationships and get tough about what will be allowed on some of the sites. Public open spaces need to be completely ringfenced. When it's gone it's gone and so no doubt will be those who brought it about, probably with a few 'new opportunities' elsewhere. |
