Hi Joanna - so glad to hear that local people are objecting to this appropriation of an open space. We are fighting exactly the same thing here in Isleworth - see the thread Horseplay in Isleworth. Again the council used the pathetic excuse that the area was underused, but they had neglected the area for years, the first we knew - no consultation, no nothing, was that we had two horses in there and all local people were denied access. We also found out via Freedom of Information that one of our ward councillors was in this up to her neck and had actually sanctioned the Delegated Authority notice for officers to proceed with leasing the land, although she has denied this! All three councillors got an e-mail telling them what officers were proposing and not one of them had the brains or interest to ask any questions, or more importantly ask if any local residents adjacent to the park had been consulted. Frankly the councillors have been as much of a problem as the officers who seem to run things and do just as they like. We too feel that if we don't kick up a stink all the parks in the borough could be threatened. If you need any support please do not hesitate to e-mail in the meantime get as many people as possible to put in objections to the planning department, although this may concern the proposed development rather than the principle of just commandeering your park without asking any of you. Good Luck! |
