Very recently pavements, walls and in particular areas around bus stops are being deposited with a rusty red spit. This is caused by chewing a substance called Paan and is a really filthy habit which has been found to transmit a number of diseases most notably TB. Brent and Barnet councils have had an epidemic of this and have had to take major action enforcing large fines and a poster /information campaign - No doubt as a result of the increase in disease statistics there. Apart from the health issues, it stains and ruins street furniture and property of anyone who is unfortunate enough to encounter it. This seems very recent in Brentford and is most noticeable in Ealing Road. So who is doing it and what is being done to stop it? |
