The most likely explanation lies with council leader Shantanu. He has form in this area, as long-term readers of Private Eye will know. Back in early 2017 when Shantanu was chief whip he orchestrated the removal of cllr Gurpal Virdi from the Labour group (and party) for allegedly leaking information about councillor casework levels to the Houndlow Chronicle (that was in the days when local newspapers actually carried news rather than puff pieces from press officers!) He had no evidence that Virdi had leaked the information but as he was a thorn in the side of the leadership he had to go. With Labour the party comes first and last. Nothing else matters if it means clinging on to power. Lambert’s face didn’t fit once Shantanu took over and the body language between the two was obvious to any sentient individual. Balraj must have been useful to Shantanu for the last couple of years but was expendable in the end. There will undoubtedly be WhatsApp groups within the Labour cohort that will be equally heinous as that reported in the national press recently. |
