The Barclays in South Ealing closed a few years ago, though not before it was the target of armed robbers one morning. It’s now a Costa Coffee. Local councillors are uniformly useless. More interested in peddling the party policies than listening to residents. There’s been a crime issue in the area for a long time, mainly fuelled by drug use. If you see a viper on the best you will be lucky. The SNT spend most time in the canteen at Acton nick. The cemetery is handy for the dealers from neighbouring Clayponds estate, although the dealing isn’t restricted to the quiet environs of the graveyard. Plenty happens on the street. We get told a lot about how local authorities in London are improving the areas they look after, but building shiny new flats isn’t the same as building communities. There’s been a gradual erosion of decent and easily accessible shops and services in south Ealing for a long time, pushed out by avaricious developers and compliant council planning teams. The only genuine improvement has been the establishment of Ealing Fields High School, although the council certainly can’t take the credit for that. |
