| County Parade has been ripe for redevelopment for over thirty years but the Philistines who approved the proposed scheme have also approved the demolition of the character-filled facades that 'humanised' Brentford along with all of the light industrial units that provided many jobs for locals. As a relative newcomer to the area I would counsel you to review what is proposed and contrast it with a long and interesting history of a small market town now being totally extinguished by over-development. My own family connection with brentford only goes back to the mid-nineteenth century when family members had factories on or near Catherine Wheel Road and were there for all of the time that the Gas Board had premises. What is being lost is character. Other small towns have managed to preserve it, LB Hounslow and the developer seems determined to turn it into a soul-less clone of every other concrete dormitory town. |
