There are tens of THOUSANDS of them all over the borough which makes the whole exercise look like a case of poppy Stalinism. If people want to wear them then that is their right but I feel that the thousands on every lampost in the borough is forcing them down people’s thoats. I would like to know: 1. Were the poppies donated and if so by whom? 2. If they were not donated where did the funds come from to buy them? 3. Were people paid to put them up or were they put up by people giving their time freely? 4. Who actually did put the poppies up and who is going to take them down - and when. 5. How many poppies have been put up ? And are they recyclable or are they just more stuff that will end up in landfill. As each poppy weighs I would think say 50 grams,so that’s 20 poppies make a kilo and 20,000 make a TONNE! That’s a tonne of waste generated by this thing alone, maybe more. that’s a LOT of waste. Talk about overkill. The money to finance this exercise could have been given directly to the charities concerned. |
