If that means that the many long term sitting tenants who live in below standard housing can get a better home to live in then that's fine. But very few have repair responsibility, which is why they live in such poor housing. No-one ever enforces the rather secretive Housing Family Trusts to maintain their stock. When it does happen they get allowed to hike up rents which ends up forcing the tenants out. Which is not the implication of Landlords receiving grants. But it still returns to the fact that Landlords who are not keeping properties properly maintained, should not be allowed to be landlords and certainly not get taxpayers money which they will profit from sooner or later. |
