I think we all understand that and I for one see no reason for any developer making a profit. The problem is and has been it is more about a fast buck for the cheapest possible product which is usually dressed up to appeal. The likes of Ballymore are never around for long. The sell out, liquidate, reform and almost always extract themselves from obligations and promises. A classic example was with Richmond Ice rink where everyone, even the media could see what was happening except, it seems, Richmond council who were led up the garden path and out the gate at the back. Local authorities have a difficult problem but they have to be tough, very tough and very resilient and this is not helped by the inept displays shown by both it's officers and councillors. This makes it easy for developers to home in on the weak links. It's just the same with the proposed development at Reynards Mill which is a modern industrial site which is as valuable to a community as homes as it provided local jobs and a viable local ecomomy. |
